Digital Education
Learning and distributing education or information through electronic
media like laptops, tabs, online is known is digital education. With a lot of
people now using smartphone and laptops, now information can easily be
circulated through internet. E-Newspapers are the most commonly used digital
content.
Why a need of digital literacy?
- With
India aiming to become Digital India, Digital literacy among children,
youth and adults is must.
- The
numbers of internet users have increased a lot; hence more people can have
access to digital content.
- The
traditional education methods have not successfully reached to all the
corners of rural India.
There are still a large number of children in rural areas who are not
able to access education. The literacy rate is very low in rural areas and some
schools in the villages do not have proper books, space and even lack proper
teachers. Hence to overcome this problem, the only solution we have his digital
education. Online education can be easily distributed to all the corners of the
country without any cost. The content is useful and made informative to the
students.
There are some students who are not able to cope up with the syllabus
run in the classes and hence run for the tuitions/coaching classess to meet
their need, digital education is best. Through e-resources like ppt’s, videos
lessons one can easily revise it again and again and can watch any repeated
number of times. Hence these children can also be aided.
E-resources are easy to understand and are easy to use. The digital
content is made in such a way that children find interest studying though them
using animations and with a lot of graphics. Rather than giving only
theoretical knowledge, one is able to see and understand through graphics.
A lot of websites provide different courses for all students of all age
groups which help them to clear or pass an examinations. The success rate of
examinations have increased a lot since the introduction of such courses.
If a student finds any problem in any subject then he/she can
24/7 clear his queries by the experts. Unlike traditional system one can ask
his doubts even after classroom time.
Children can study any day, any time irrespective of any bounded hours.
There have been some NGO’S and private organizations that aim to provide
education in rural areas. They setup weekly or weekend classes for the
children. They show them video’s, slides and teach children and parents about
the need and benefits digital literacy. These organizations are usually funded
by people through charities and by some sponsors. ERIDE ( Empowering Rural
Intellect with Digital Education) is one such organization.
Eride is an NGO with the objectives to improvise the rural sections,
which is the backbone of our nation. With help of their dedicated volunteers, they conduct sessions daily in which a batch of students are provided digital
literacy employing hands-on practical training using tablets in their regional
languages. For empowering rural India, along with digital literacy they also
conduct sessions on useful concepts like agricultural literacy, financial
literacy, basic math, English and many more. Click ERIDE to know more about it.
Schools should connect classrooms
for students and teachers, should have affordable and faster access to
information, teaching and learning resources etc.
India’s literacy rate is a great factor for both social and economic
progress. India’s literacy rate is 74.04% as per 2011 census. The rate of
literacy growth in India is large as compared to rural areas. Main factors
contributing to this relatively low literacy rate is usefulness of education
and availability of schools in vicinity in rural areas. So for the upliftment
of the rural area’s literacy, digital education can lay a crucial role.
The rate of progress of SARV SIKSHA ABHIYAN that aims to encourage the
need to go to schools and to gain education can be accelerated with the help of
digital education.
Hence education which is a basic right of every citizen can be modified
and made more interesting to children through digital education. We all must
hold hand in hand with a mind set to make our country, our people more educated
and more developed by introducing new digital education concept in schools in
both rural and urban areas.
Jai Hind
Digital Education is very necessary.
